  9.      This file contains information on how to unarc and print the
  10.      documentation.  It also contains instructions on how to upgrade your
  11.      PC-ACCOUNT work disk or directory for those who are using a previous
  12.      version of PC-ACCOUNT.  And it discusses the changes made since
  13.      version 2.15.
  14.      
  15.      Please read the file HOW2REGI.STR on how to register by mail or
  16.      modem.

  18.                                  DOCUMENTATION

  21.      The documentation is in the file called PCDOC220.ARC.  The five text
  22.      files extracted from PCDOC220.ARC use 205K of floppy disk space.

  25.                 INSTRUCTIONS TO UN-ARC THE PCDOC220.ARC FILE

  28.             1.  Insert the disk with the PCDOC220.ARC file into
  29.                 drive A:
  30.      
  31.             2.  Copy ARCE.COM to the disk in drive A:
  32.      
  33.             3.  Insert a blank, formatted disk in drive B:
  34.      
  35.             4.  Make B: the default drive.
  36.      
  37.             5.  Enter the command:

  42.                     INSTRUCTIONS TO PRINT THE DOCUMENTATION

  45.           Before printing the documentation, set the printer print head at
  46.      the second or third line from the top of the page, then turn the
  47.      printer on.  You will need 80 pages.  To print all five documentation
  48.      files at once, use the command:
  49.      
  50.                              COPY  PART?  PRN
  51.      
  52.      To print one file at a time, substitute the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 one
  53.      at a time for the question mark in the above command.  These five
  54.      files are pure ASCII files with form feeds.  You may also display
  55.      them with the TYPE command.  They are sized to print properly on the
  56.      LaserJet.

  65.               UPGRADE INSTRUCTIONS FOR USERS OF PREVIOUS VERSIONS

  68.      CAUTION.  Version 2.20 will read your existing file called CONTROL,
  69.      expand it, set new defaults and then write it in a format that cannot
  70.      be understood by some previous versions.  Therefore, you may want to
  71.      first copy your old CONTROL file to another file name or disk to feel
  72.      secure.  But DO make the CONTROL file available so that your selected
  73.      features can be maintained.  Version 2.20 does not change the format
  74.      of any other files.
  75.      
  76.      Version 2.20 is compiled with the Microsoft BASIC Compiler.  To
  77.      prepare to run this version you must perform the following steps.
  78.      
  79.            NOTE: If you do not have a PC-ACCOUNT system set up, this will
  80.            not work for you. See the manual for getting started.
  81.      
  82.           1.  Delete the old version of these files from your working
  83.           disk or directory:  (Note. You will not have all of these files,
  84.           depending on your old version of PC-ACCOUNT.)

  107.           3.  Enter the command GO or PCACT to run the program.

  109.           4.  Enter the command ACT_INIT, select menu item 2, CHANGE
  110.           PROGRAM PARAMETERS, to select any of the new options.

  124.      Steps 1 and 2 can be performed automatically with the batch file,
  125.      UPDATE22.BAT.  Place the PC-ACCOUNT 2.20 distribution disk in drive
  126.      A:.  Place your PC-ACCOUNT working disk in drive B: if you are
  127.      operating from a floppy disk.  Make drive B: or your PC-ACCOUNT
  128.      directory on your hard disk the default drive.  Enter the command:

  133.                    NEW FEATURES IN PC-ACCOUNT VERSION 2.20

  136.      There are many versions of PC-ACCOUNT in the distribution channels.
  137.      Each has added features over the previous.  The last release was
  138.      2.15.  The manual has also been updated.  The last time it was
  139.      updated was for version 2.11.
  140.      
  141.      The big change is a new transaction input screen that is much easier
  142.      for new users to understand.  It is called the Prompted Input Mode.
  143.      The old Free Form Input Mode is still available.  You can switch from
  144.      one to the other while in the input mode by entering an asterisk
  145.      followed by RETURN, instead of entering the transaction amount.
  146.      There is a note on the screen to remind you of this.  PC-ACCOUNT will
  147.      remember the mode that you used last and continue to use that one.
  148.      
  149.      For those who have a long payee list, PC-ACCOUNT will now search the
  150.      payee name list for you.  When prompted to enter the payee name or
  151.      number, enter an equal sign followed by a text string. For example,
  152.      to initiate a search for the Sears Payee record, enter
  153.      
  154.                            =SEARS
  155.      
  156.      and the SEARS record will be placed on the top line.  Press RETURN to
  157.      select it to be printed on the check, or enter N to continue
  158.      searching.
  159.      
  160.      The search will work on any string in the name field and is not
  161.      sensitive to case.  You could have entered  =ars  and it would have
  162.      found SEARS.  It does not search the memo field.  Write to me if you
  163.      want it to search the memo field and I will put it in a future
  164.      version.

  166.      You can now run the initialization and parameter selection program,
  167.      ACT_INIT.EXE from the PC-ACCOUNT main menu.  It is the last item in
  168.      the menu, I, for Initialization.  Run it to see the new features that
  169.      can be selected.  There is a second selection screen that will be
  170.      accessed when you quit the first.

  183.      A useful feature that was added a few months ago at the request of a
  184.      user is a display at the bottom of the screen when the transaction
  185.      records are displayed.  It displays the count of the transactions
  186.      displayed and the sum of the amounts.  It will also print this data
  187.      on your printer.  This option can be turned on or off with the
  188.      parameter selection in ACT_INIT.EXE.
